Compass School Southwark

The project included the refurbishment of one of the existing out of date and redundant 1960’s buildings. The project provided much needed teaching space and transformed the old three storey accomodation with a link access to the adjacent building.

The building is currently heated via the site wide heating distribution network and central boiler plant. The refurbishment included the local modification of the heating system within the block whilst maintaining the service to the remainder on the campus.

New ventilation and lighting were provided within the building to ensure the building was revitalised to be fit for use, offering an excellent state-of-the-art modern teaching facility. The refurbishment project allowed the school existing Reception main entrance and administration offices to be relocated to create a formal front entrance for the school.

The schools existing reception/administration office has been converted into a new dining area to improve adjacencies with the main school's kitchen.

The design of the services had to considered the phased manner of works to allow the school to maintain its normal curriculum during construction. The refurbishment also is sited directly adjacent to functioning classroom space. Consideration of the design and site works had to focus on limiting disruption to the  operating classrooms in the adjacent building whilst works were continuing on site.
